Capitals to Open Playoffs Wednesday

The first-round schedule for the Stanley Cup playoffs is out, and the Capitals will open their Eastern Conference quarterfinal Wednesday night at Verizon Center, and Game 2 will be NBC's Saturday afternoon game before the series shifts to Manhattan early next week and go every other day in the 2-2-1-1-1 format.

The series is as follows:

Wednesday, Apr. 15: at Washington, 7PM ET
Saturday, Apr. 18: at Washington, 1PM ET (NBC)
Monday, Apr. 20: at New York, 7PM ET (Versus)
Wednesday, Apr. 22: at New York, 7PM ET (Versus)
Friday, Apr. 24: at Washington, 7PM ET (Versus)*
Sunday, Apr. 26: at New York, 2PM ET (NBC)*
Tuesday, Apr. 28: at Washington, TBA (Versus)*
*=if necessary

In the rest of the Eastern Conference, the Flyers blew a chance to host their first-round series against the Penguins, and now will open on the road at Mellon Arena as the No. 5 seed.

Out West, the matchups are set, with the Sharks hosting their California rivals from Anaheim, the Red Wings draw Steve Mason and the Blue Jackets in their playoff debut, the Canucks will battle the Blues and Chicago faces Calgary.
