Jurcina Nets Raise in Arbitration

The result of the Milan Jurcina arbitration case was handed down late yesterday, and the defenseman was awarded a healthy raise to $1.375 million, and the crowded Capitals blueline figures to change before the puck drops on October 1st.

The raise wasn't enough to trigger a "walk-away" clause for the Caps, meaning they couldn't just opt not to pay him and let him become an unrestricted free agent (as ex-Capitals forward Dmitri Kristich was several years ago when Boston let him go after being unhappy with an award).

So, now with the full compliment of defensemen from last season, and Brian Pothier healthy heading into camp, as well as John Carlson and Karl Alzner fighting for spots, there figures to be some trades as the Capitals will need to shed some salary before the season begins.
