Ovechkin NHL's First Star of Week

Alexander Ovechkin started this season with a bang, and was rewarded for his six points in two games by being named the NHL's first star of the week.

Ovechkin scored twice against Boston with an assist on Thursday, then added his third goal and two more assists in a win over Toronto Saturday night.

Heading into tonight's action, the top four point-getters in the league are Capitals, with Ovechkin one point ahead of teammates Brooks Laich, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin. Laich matched Ovechkin's three goals in the first two games, while Nicklas Backstrom leads the league in assists with five, while Ovechkin and Semin are tied for second with several other players.

Colorado's Craig Anderson was second, and St. Louis' Keith Tkachuk was third star.
