Carlson nets game-winner for U.S.

It's been a busy year for John Carlson, as after making a couple of appearances in the 2009 Calder Cup Finals, he also has been one of the Bears' rock-solid men on the blueline, got his first cup of coffee in the NHL, and now helped the U.S. advance to the World Junior Championship final in the Americans' 5-2 win over Sweden.

In a tight game against a Swedish team that was looking for a third straight trip to the gold-medal game, Carlson snapped a 2-2 tie with a long shot from the blue line eluded netminder Jacob Markstrom. The win gives the U.S. its first appearance in the gold-medal game of the tournament since defeating Canada in 2004 for the title.

It was a nice bit of redemption for Carlson, who had some tough moments in the round-robin portion of the tournament against the Canadians, a game in which the U.S. lost a 4-2 lead and lost their bye into the semis with a bitter shootout defeat.

Now, Carlson and the Americans will get another shot at the Canadians Tuesday night.
