First Period Re-Cap

The Capitals and Flyers just finished period one with each team tallying twice. The Flyers got on the board first on a power play goal by Jeff Carter at 6:03.

With Brendan Morrison in the box for cross-checking, Kimmo Timonen sent a pass from the point to Carter who was in the left circle. Carter spon around and snapped a shot through Jose Theodore's five-hole.

Just 1:46 later the Capitals tied the game on a goal by former Flyer Mike Knuble. Knuble finished Alex Ovechkin's one-time pass through the crease by beating Flyers goaltender Ray Emergy seven-hole. The goal is Knuble's sixth in the last six games and first against the Flyers after signing with the Capitals this past off-season.

James Van Riemsdyk put the Flyers back in the lead at 9:16 on a wrist shot from the high slot that beat Theodore low to the glove side. It was the Flyers eighth shot of the period.

Brooks Laich tied the game for the second time at 13:28 by putting back a rebound of Tomas Fleischmann's wrist shot from the mid-slot. Emergy failed to control the rebound which came out to Laich who was skating across, in front of Emergy.

The goal came on the Capitals' seventh shot, and was Laich's first since December 28 against Carolina, and just his second goal since the Capitals last meeting against the Flyers on Dec 5.
