Alex Ovechkin to make special announcement

I received an e-mail from the Capitals Media Relations Department today notifying all media that cover the team that Alex Ovechkin will make a special announcment at Kettler Capitals IcePlex on Tuesday afternoon.

My initial thought was "Is it possible that Ovie is going to relinquish his Captain 'C'?" I don't think so because a few weeks ago Tarik El-Bashir posted an interview with Bruce Boudreau on Capitals Insider where Boudreau said he told Ovie last month that he wants him to take his captaincey to the next level.

I don't think relinquishing it is the level that BB meant.

So, what could it be?

Could it be a new equipment endorsement deal since he ended his relationship with CCM and is reportedly signing with Bauer?

Or is Ovie going to stand in front of the masses at Kettler and say "we've learned from our mistakes of last few years. With guys we get during offseason we going to make next step towards Stanley Cup."

Readers, leave comments and let me know what you think.

  1. Here's my thoughts: I think that he's going to announce that he's taking moving to the other side. He'll be a RW next season. All season long.
Or maybe he's going to be responsible for officially introducing the new players to the Media. That would be kind of cool for the Captain to do.

  2. Haha. It wouldn't surprise me if the organization had Ovie introduce the new free agents. This organization is no slouch when it comes to marketing ability. It's possible Ovie could move to right wing, but I doubt they would hold a press conference to do that. Thanks for your comment.
